Image IQ recently faced a unique and challenging photography assignment: capturing the innovative UV traceability feature of the Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-30 display stand.
This cutting-edge oil features a unique UV-reactive additive, designed to trace leaks. To showcase this technology, the display stand incorporates low-level UV lights that illuminate the oil with a subtle glow when activated.
However, photographing this subtle glow presented several significant challenges:
- Highly Reflective Surfaces: The display stand, constructed primarily of polished aluminium, created numerous reflections that required careful light control.
- Low-Level UV Lighting: The subtle UV illumination was challenging to capture effectively, requiring careful lighting control and camera settings.
To overcome these obstacles, our team employed a multi-faceted approach:
- Controlled Environment: We meticulously controlled the lighting environment, minimizing ambient light and carefully positioning the UV lights to maximize the glow effect.
- Multiple Exposures: We captured two separate images: one with the ambient lighting and another with the UV lights activated.
- Image Merging: Utilizing advanced image editing techniques, we seamlessly merged these two images, preserving the detail and texture of the display stand while accurately capturing the subtle UV glow of the oil.
The final image effectively communicates the unique UV traceability feature of Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-30, showcasing the innovative technology in a visually compelling manner.
